DJ MC is a Sacramento based DJ Service providing non-cheesy disc jockeys, emcees & karaoke for fun receptions, events, and corporate functions in Northern California.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Cheesy DJ services were the inspiration for DJ-MC Entertainment. We're the complete opposite of the other Disc Jockeys who play YMCA & Macarena all the time!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Our first web site was at the now-defunct FromDJ.com---it was one of those free pages like Geocities used to have, before they had all those pop-up advertisements. We launced our own domain (dj-mc.com) in 2001.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We're DJs and Emcees (MCs). My name is Matt Cohen, whose initials are "M.C."......hence the name "DJ-MC". It was a happy coincidence that the word "DJ" is part of the URL, which has always helped the Search Engines find us, even before we learned about SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Our completely different style, compared to other Disc Jockey services, sets us apart....our web site is low budget, which reflects our philosophy of providing the best services at affordable rates.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our goal is to continue to perform as a Disc Jockey for the foreseeable future.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I've been blessed with a job that lets me work out of my home. Instead of commuting to a boring 9-to-5 job---I'm in my home office working in my bathrobe and slippers. I've been able to raise my daughter and put her through school, and we've built a home on acreage where we plan to stay forever.....LIFE IS GOOD!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
We'd probably do a complete design overhaul, getting rid of the old Frames design, adding new graphics and more visuals. Perhaps a dynamic links page using php software instead of a static page.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely. Most other DJs don't have the time or money to build a good web site...I can hire them to fill my overbooked dates.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Like the Monty Python skit: SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM and MORE SPAM!!!
Every day, my e-mail In Box is filled with Nigerian Spammers and Idiots who want to make me "#1 In Google" (problem is, I already AM the number one in Google for all of my key words "Sacramento Wedding DJs", which is why I attract so damn much SPAM--its a blessing and a curse to be #1).
What has been your biggest challenge?
Raising my Google Page Rank....becoming #1 in my area in searches for DJs, Disc Jockeys, and Wedding DJs.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
If I told you, I'd probably have to KILL you....LOL
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
You cannot treat it like a Cash Cow....there are always improvements that need to be made, and more places to find Back Links!
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?ou continue to kee
DJ-MC.com has been in existence for SEVEN (7) YEARS. During that time, we've become the #1 Sacramento Wedding DJs in Google search (non-sponsored). Page views are increasing, and our Alexa ranking is expected to break under 1,000,000 by the end of this quarter. According to our projections, we expect to increase revenues during 2008 and 2009 despite soaring gasoline costs, due to lower overhead costs.
What is the most satisfying aspect of your Web Site?
We have the ONLY non-cheesy Disc Jockey service in the Sacramento region. Our web site is NOT the only source of our business, but rather the referrals from our past customers. Many of our past clients post reviews at UGC sites like CitySearch, Yelp, Merchant Circle, Insider Pages, etc. These are also high-quality referrals that link to our web page.
