Please give us a short summary of your website?
A user friendly Video/News/Forum sharing website and online community dedicated to Jamaican dancing.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I love dancing and Jamaican dancehall culture. I realized there were no user friendly websites on the internet dedicated to Jamaican dancing, so I decided to create Yarddancers.com
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched the website in January 2008.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I search for domain names like Jamaicandancing.com jamaicandancers.com but they are all taken, and Yard is a term used synonymous with Jamaica - so I chose yarddancers.com as the site name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
There are no similar offerings.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
For the website to become popular and more efficient in sharing jamaican dance culture.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I haven't made any money and don't expect to make any soon, so for now I'm focusing on making the site better than it is.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would perfect the look and performance of the site.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, the site content isn't in my hands, it's in the users hands. All I will need to do is buy more webspace, hopefully I will have money to buy space.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
No unexpected costs, just my monthly hosting bill.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting search engine friendly urls, which I still don't have.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I only have 16 members so far, the site is new and I haven't done any real advertising, mainly because I do not have the money.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I'm still learning about running websites, but so far it has been a good experience.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have been running it for three months, I will run it for as long as I can afford to run it.
