Explorer guitars features a brief history of this interesting musical instrument as well as free classifieds to buy and sell Explorers. there is also a photo gallery where users can upload a picture of their custom or standard guitar and also a section dedicated to left handed guitars because they are very rare.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
There is very little objective information on the internet regarding Explorer guitars. Mostly guitar players can find commercial ads for music stores selling Gibson Explorers as well as the many other brands like Hamer, ESP, and Dean that have released copies of the original Explorer.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name for the site was simple, Explorer guitars sums up the passion for this unusual type of electric guitar. I really saw no reason to name it anything else.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Unfortunately I couldn't find any similar sites to compare it against. Explorer guitars is a one-of-a-kind guitar website at this point.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I enjoy doing this site as a hobby and my investment of time is enjoyable. I think if it were a chore I wouldn't spend nearly as much time online.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Explorer guitars is a self service website that the user can place his or her own classified ad or upload a picture to the photo gallery without any interaction from me at all. I would be pleased to see the site grow larger with more guitar fans visiting and enjoying the Explorer as a viable musical instrument.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
To this point Explorer guitars has not had any unexpected costs associated with it other than the annual expenditures.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been to encourage participation from guitarists to contribute photos to the picture gallery for others to enjoy, although interest seems to be growing in this aspect.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Explorer Guitars is fairly new and is just taking hold. I plan on keeping it operating indefinitely.
How will this site help musicians and guitar players alike?
Explorer Guitars will help guitarists appreciate the Explorer whether you choose to play a Gibson or one of the other brands that attempt to copy the original guitar. Also I believe left handed guitar players will benfit by the added information regarding the availablility of the left hand models.
