Yet Another TV Review Podcast Interview

By Interviewer at 08/14/07 22:07

What is the name of your Blog?

Yet Another TV Review Podcast

What is your name?

Michael

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

I'm from Ireland

What is your current age or age range?

Mid-thirties.

Please describe your blog

It's about TV shows. There are two types of content: written reviews and podcasts.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

I want to tell people what I thought of the stuff I watched on TV and I want to hear back what people thought.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

I use Hipcast to store the podcasts, and Blogger to host the blog. And I have no idea why. I mean, does anybody know the reason why they use the platform they do? I suppose I did a Google Search, read up on a few of the sites and picked one. Nothing very exciting.

What do you blog the most about?

TV shows. I talk about the TV episodes I've watched over the past few days.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Oh, the usual. Rants that are offensive in same way. I really hate that random "next site" button that Blogger sites have to have. Suddenly you knee deep in some random porn site. It sucks. I'm no prude, I like porn, but it shouldn't pop up like that in the middle of mainstream blogs that kids can access. That's not right. And I weary of blogs that are just the same old 'news' I can read anywhere, without any sort of personal input from the writer. For instance, a lot of blogs I read are telling me about a new show called Pushing Daisies. Most are just cast lists and photos. For Frak's sake, it's the internet, I can read that anywhere. I prefer to read opinions of some sort.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

I know nothing about blogging. Nothing!! I'm starting out. But, I suppose my answer would be: 1- keep your blog to one clear vision, 2- put your opinions/views into what you write. Um. And three others. But those two are important, I guess. It should be obvious for any one post what kind of blog it is, and what kind of person you are.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

Don't know how to answer that. I'd cheerfully blog about anything that I like (comic books, music, whatever). But it's a strange questions. I'd never blog about my friend's secrets I suppose, or write up a personal diary blog that was TOO personal. That kind of thing.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

Nope. Just as well. I'm making none. I have no idea how to go about that. I can't even figure out how to make people aware of where my blog is, so they can read it.

How long have you been blogging?

I started the site two years ago and posted podcast every few weeks for six months. Then I took a break from it for nine months (while I was dating someone who didn't appreciate my little hobbies). Since the start of 2007 I've been much more regular with the podcasts and now that I have internet access in my home I've become very regular with the blogs also.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

Right now? Lots cos I'm on holiday and I have free time. Usually, my blogging/posing will be concentrated into a couple of solid hours in the week.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

This is all still very vague to me, but I'm reading up on it. I use Feedburner.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

I've looked at Digg, but I've not really been bothered with it. Yet.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

Never heard of that. You could say I've not stumbled upon it, I suppose.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

None. Ha Ha. But, seriously, folks, I can't get a grip on promotion at all. I know for a fact that there are TV addicts would enjoy reading my blog (cos it's exactly the sort of blog I like to read myself) but I have no idea (yet) how to let them know that it exists.

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

No sure what that means. Somebody else's blog? Well, it's not a blog, but I'd like to be on the TV Guide Podcast, or the Comic Geek Speak podcast, because they are perfect examples of what I enjoy in podcasts.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

No idea how to answer that. And I'm insulted. Why pre-suppose I've made mistakes? For all you know I could be perfect! But, I actually can't think of any obvious mistakes I have made. It's a simple blog/podcast site. I have a clear vision of what I want it to be, and I've stuck to it.

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

Yeah, I met my wife through my blogging experiences. No. Not really. Sorry. I've not met anyone yet.

Is blogging fun?

Yeah. It's worth doing and it gets more enjoyable the more time you spend with it.

What is the url of your blog?
