Broadwood Music Productions - Kent UK Based Recording Studio Interview

By Interviewer at 06/11/07 08:13

Name of your website?

Broadwood Music Productions - Kent UK Based Recording Studio

Your name?

Nick Wood

Your Location (city, etc)

Newington, kent

When did you start your website and why?

I started this particular website in 2006. It goes hand in hand with my main studio website as it contains an online shop.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

The website provides a summary of the services my company offer. I am primarily a recording studio that records local bands and artists but I also do music for television and also offer a Recording Studio Experience Gift Voucher pack, for sale in the online shop, catering for amateurs and professionals alike.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Developing an online shop is very difficult, especially if you have no retail background. I'm reasonably proficient at web site creation and programming but the most difficult part for me is the graphic design

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Once set up the website is reasonably easy to maintain. Constantly updating it is an easy, enjoyable and essential task.

What was your biggest mistake?

Trying to do the graphics on my own, trying to master all trades and not sticking to what i'm best at!

Who maintains your website and why?

Myself. To keep costs down and, mainly, because I love developing websites.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

90% of my studio work comes from my three websites. I'm not a great one for personal communication and this is by far the best form of advertisement you can get.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Can't really answer this one as, like i said before, i'm not much into retail but, as far as the internet's future is concerned, I think it will be great until the worlds fuel supply runs out!!!!!

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I've made it my personal goal to try and master SEO. Haven't done it yet but my sites rank reasonably high for my selected keywords. In my early days I was dismayed at the constantly changing rules which constantly made me lose place but I understand the reasoning behind it and now think that it is a good thing.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Definitely helped. They are the essential tool of the internet.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search engine placement, definitely

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Flyers and paper advertising. probably due to the 80 -20 rule (i'e probably 20% of web users to 80% non web users)

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Nothing. It is a people orientated media and, essentially, run by the people. Apart from the obvious clampdowns on terrorism and child porn, that is how it should be.

What has impressed you most about music and the internet.

The fact that it is now possible for bands and artists to promote their own music online and become a success, either through their own websites or via myspace type sites. One up on the record labels !!!

London recording studio Interview

By Interviewer at 06/10/07 20:27
Name of your website?

London recording studio

Your name?

Darren

Your Location (city, etc)

London

When did you start your website and why?

In 2005 to get more attention from singers and songwriters who needed to find a suitable recording studio.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Apple Beam is a studio that aims to provide high quality productions at low cost - difficult job! However, we are achieving this but using skilled producers in London and Denmark and by deligating tasks.

We charge bythe hour but have 'set fee goals' which focus everyone to setting a dead line which enables us to plan the sessions better. Singers and song writters are briefed on the best way to save time and money before the session (based on their individual situation)

We offer a popular 'pre production' deal which many published songwriters use as it is hassle free and yet still very high production quality.

All of our producers have a national or international release and provide a friendly professional service to newcomers and professional singers and songwriters.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

getting the information presented clearly! With more stuff to add all the time it gets bogged down, so we tidy it up and end up redesigning the whole lot!!

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The fact that we can do it mostly in house.

What was your biggest mistake?

Not planning the site layout properly before designing and building it.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do because it is still growing fast and needs updating a lot.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

More and more customers find us online.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I think the internet will become more sofisticated and use voice recognition more.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

It's tough but worthwhile.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

helped.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

writing articles and linking.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

too many graphics that slow the pages down.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

more voice recognition in an intelligent, intuative way.

What has been the most frustraiting question from your customers?

"What's the catch"!! We get asked a lot, why are we cheap yet provude a great service? Well there is no catch, we just want to make our mark in the industry ... hopefully we can keep our prices down and maybe we should push the fact that "there is no catch"!

House Of Tracks Online Recording Studio Interview

By Interviewer at 06/06/07 14:10
Name of your website?

House Of Tracks Online Recording Studio

Your name?

Bill Timpano

Your Location (city, etc)

Long Island NY

When did you start your website and why?

I found there was a need for quality studio musicians to help songwriters and musicians bring their music to life. I understand how difficult it can be for a songwriter who for instance, plays piano, but wants a more complete demo recording featuring guitars and bass. A traditional walk in studio with hired musicians is often well out of the budget of most struggling artists. Our aim is to provide quality demo services at affordable rates.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We are an online recording studio. We provide guitar, bass, keyboard and drum tracks for an artist's original song. Our instrument tracks are recorded live, not sampled. The only exception is the drum tracks, which are programmed. The artist uploads a rough "sketch" of the song via our website, along with a description of what they envision. We then have a discussion to make sure we agree on a given direction. The artist is kept up to date on the process and ultimately gives final approval. We then provide the completed track files to the artist to download so he can mix and master locally, or we can provide the mixing service. We make this whole process as streamlined as possible.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult part is getting the word out to the masses. It has been a slow process, but ultimately I feel quality of our work will help spread the word!

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The website essentially runs itself.

What was your biggest mistake?

Luckily, none yet!

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain the site myself. It is very simple, as I mostly just update our music samples.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

My business relies soley upon my website, since it is a web based business. No website, no work!

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

It has proven to be the way we do business. We have come a long way in just 5 years. In another 5 years I predict the vast majority of commerce will be via the web. No waiting in line!

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I feel people complicate more than it is. I am sure the SEO's like to make it seem like black majic. Yes, there are tricks to it, but with a bit of research the average person can good positioning

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Helped of course. Google is the key to getting the most hits.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Link exchanges, joining related forums and posting frequently, and being a gust writer for related web sites that in turn mention my name and website.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Paying for position

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

There are people far brighter than I am that can answer that question. I am just a musician!
