Name of your website?Nashville West Productions
Your name?
Stephen Underwood
Your Location (city, etc)
Bakersfield
Please give us a short summary of your website?
This website is about a recording studio that me and a couple of other people are starting up. This is going to be the center of what I do as far as where multi-media comes in. Music, Websites, Graphics and so on.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I've been recording music since I was 11 years old, my first session was in 1987 at a studio in Fresno, CA. I've been designing websites since 1999 and desided it was time to launch both into production.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
The first website I designed was for The Lighthouse Boys, that site was launched in the spring of 2000.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Nashville West is the nick name for Bakersfield due in part by Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. The music part of this company is dedicated to them and we want to help carry on the legacy that has been left to us here in Bakersfield.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Well this is a Christian owned buisneses. However, we feel that we can offer nashville quality for a lower cost, most times bands don't get what they want out of an album because of the cost of time. We want to change that.
What is your eventual goal?
To see the music buisness finaly come back to Bakersfield, and to see the multi-media end of things grow even better as a result. Bakersfield has great talent here but it seems in order to make it everyone has to go other places. I want that to change.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
To get started is a labor of Love on your end, you have to say to yourself, "Ok is this something you want to do, or is it a hobby" and if its a hobby then it really can't be anything you need to lose your house over.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Oh, Bigger and Better. Better location, more toys to work with. I would have a room with Mac's lined out just for Website and Graphics development. I would have the works in the Recording Studio department, I'm talking about Alesis HD24s and ProTools all the way. Maybe even launch a Video and Movie editing department....who knows what could be done on an unlimited budget, but it would be nice to have one.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Oh yea, supply and demand. I feel that if the demand grows, the budget grows and the funds will come in to meet what you are doing. The idea is not to get ahead of yourself.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
lol... I'm not sure about unexptected costs, but I have had to deal with some pretty big headaches trying to move forward. You never really stop going over hurtles, as soon as you clear one, another one is almost going to be there around the corner.
What has been your biggest challenge?
MONEY!!! no, it's been a challenge as the industry of Web development and Graphics changes and as the Recording industry Changes. You just have to sit back and go, "Ok, What's our next step?" and go with that.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Getting the word out, either by word of mouth, or webzines. Places that you can go to to post news releases. Just getting out there and pushing your name out there as much as you can.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
You always have one vision when doing something like this. In my experience, by the time you are finished and ready to launch, it may be better than what you had in mind, or you're pushing the launch date back so you can change some things because it didn't come out at all like you thought.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I've been running this site since January or February 2007 I believe. This will go as long as the company is going.
You are an award winning website designer?
5 time award winner, I have 3 Gold Awards and 2 Silver Awards. TheLighthouseBoys.com was also the first Southern Gospel Music website excepted for nomination for the BT Digital Music Awards, People's Choice Catagory.
