Rock-it Radio Interview

By Interviewer at 06/17/07 02:56

Name of your website?

Rock-it Radio

Your name?

Bennie Dingo

Your Location (city, etc)

Ventura, California

When did you start your website and why?

In 1995 Streaming Radio Broadcasts were just beginning and we wanted to increase our audience and the thought of broadcasting to The World via the Internet the Classic Rock and Roll of it's first decade seemed very intriguing. It has been a great roller coaster of a ride and 12 years later we are still at it.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Rock-it Radio continues to play the music of the first decade of Rock and Roll -- From 1955 to 1965. There are currently 13 DJ's at the station from 4 different nations ... all lovers of original Rock and Roll. We also offer a free newsletter that gives the playlist of our 'on demand' shows. And goes out every Friday. You can view a sample of it at: http://www.rockitradio.net/newsletter.html We currently have almost 6700 members in our Free Listener's club, and of course you are invited to join as well.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The most difficult part is sadly mostly the monetary issues. Streaming Radio Stations are ever having to pay for increased Royalty rates. Don't get me wrong -- The Artists and writers should definetly get there fair share! Without them we wouldn't have the music we are playing. But sadly over 50% of the artists and record labels that we play now -- have passed on. And the rates are increasing and supporting genres that we don't even play.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Putting on and listening and encoding the great music our DJ's play :)

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain our websites and have done so since the beginning... pretty much self taught over the years.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Rock-it Radio has funded itself and stayed afloat by the sale of our Shows and actual Vintage Rock and Roll Radio broadcasts that we have remastered from the 50's and 60's. (Called Airchecks)... If you would like to view what is available and the website how we keep ourselves a float you can at: http://www.palmsradio.com/store.html

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Always optimistic :)

What is your website address?
