An informational website giving the details of instructors, lessons, policies, and events for Gene Ford Music.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We wanted an online presence and a place where potential students could sign up online and where current studios could get information about upcoming events.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
When our studio opened in August of 2005.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is the same as the name of our studio. We chose Gene Ford Music because of the name recognition in our area.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Our location and our instructors make our studio unique. Those instructors and their credentials are a central part of our website. We also created a online sign up form that uses PHP to email us when someone is interested in private lessons.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To provide online educational follow up for our students, to have online lesson payments, and to have a small childrens area (coloring pages, puzzles, etc.) that encourage the love of music at the earliest ages.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The website has been very effective as measured by how many requests for lessons we receive through the PHP form on the site.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
More interactivity to engage current and potential students.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We are on a developers hosting site which has significant bandwidth, so it would be hard to imagine it growing past the physical parameters. As far as updating and managing content, we would need to increase our staff to accomodate rapid growth.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None really.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Keeping content current. Just having the time to manage the content.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Search engine optimization and google adwords.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Planned to have online lesson payments much sooner.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
2 years and we plan to keep it up as long as we have the studio.
Do you understand how websites are ranked by Google?
This has been a mystery and we continually keep ourselves updated on the latest methods of optimization.
